Alienbase: Your First Swap on Base

Alien Base is a decentralized exchange and aggregator on Base. A first swap needs a compatible wallet, funds on Base, and a reviewed Epsilon quote. Your wallet manages your assets and approvals; Alien Base supplies the trading interface and routing.

Network
Base mainnet, chain ID 8453 .
Wallet Options
Standard EVM wallets, including Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, and Rabby.
Gas
ETH on Base for transactions your wallet pays for itself, in addition to the asset you intend to swap.

Wallet Readiness

A wallet connection uses the selected network. Switching the network selector to Base does not move an Ethereum balance onto Base. Funds can arrive through an exchange withdrawal explicitly supporting Base or a bridge supporting the asset and destination network. Bridging ETH does not move other tokens you hold on the source chain.

Coinbase exchange and Coinbase Wallet are separate products. A Coinbase exchange account can fund a wallet through a Base withdrawal; a compatible wallet then connects to Alien Base. The wallet's built-in swap and a swap through Alien Base are separate trading interfaces, so their quotes and charges can differ.

Connection and Spending Permission

Connecting a wallet lets Alien Base read its public address and balances and request signatures. A token allowance separately authorizes a particular contract to spend a specified token. An ERC-20 swap may require an approval before the trade, depending on the existing allowance. A confirmed approval establishes spending permission; it does not establish receipt of the token you want to buy.

Token Selection and Migrated ALB

Token search accepts a contract address, which helps distinguish assets sharing a name or ticker. ALB has moved to a new contract. The documented replacement ALB address is 0x1b23704e3f4bc7081fb00cec582183e3fe43cef7 .

Existing legacy ALB and esALB have a separate 1:1 token migration with no deadline. Buying the replacement ALB through a market swap and migrating tokens you already hold are different operations.

What Does the Swap Quote Include?

The Swap tab asks for the token you are selling, the token you want to receive, and the input amount. Epsilon compares supported DEX and aggregator routes on Base, including routes split across pools. Its net-of-fees routing accounts for gas, pool fees, and platform fees. The available liquidity and trade size affect the result; the routing mechanism does not promise a fixed exchange rate.

The Alien Base Fees reference, updated July 6, 2026, lists an asset-class platform fee plus a flat 0.05% protocol execution fee for Epsilon trades, in addition to underlying pool fees. Wallet-paid gas is another cost. Some traded tokens also charge their own transfer taxes, separate from the exchange's fees.

The Swap review shows the route, price impact, trading fee, and minimum received before wallet confirmation. Price impact concerns the trade's effect on pool pricing. Slippage tolerance limits the acceptable price movement between the quote and execution. A price move beyond that tolerance can revert the swap and still consume gas. An unacceptable minimum received is a reason to stop before signing.

Worked Example: From Approval to Received ALB

All amounts, quote settings, and observed transaction states in this example are hypothetical. A wallet holds USDC and ETH on Base and targets the migrated ALB token. Its latest confirmed transaction is a USDC spending approval, and no swap has been submitted.

The first check is to inspect the existing transaction type and the allowance for the intended spender. This requires no new transaction. The approval has authorized USDC spending, while the token exchange remains unsent. The next step is to return to the Swap review and obtain the quote.

Quoted output after trading fees: 1,236 ALB. Selected slippage tolerance: 0.5%. The minimum output calculation is 1,236 * (1 - 0.5 / 100) = 1,229.82 ALB . This floor applies to this quote and tolerance, with no additional token-transfer deduction assumed.

After the swap is signed and submitted, suppose its on-chain transaction confirms successfully and records 1,232 ALB received by the same address. Check the successful swap transaction and recipient transfers on Basescan, then reconcile the amount with the ALB balance change on Base and the app's Trades panel. The received amount is 2.18 ALB above the calculated minimum. Changing the quoted output or tolerance changes that minimum; an approval or pending swap alone cannot establish this completed receipt.
