Alienbase esALB: What Happens to Locked ALB?

Locking ALB with Alien Base converts it 1:1 into esALB, a non-transferable token on Base. Under the new Alien Base 2.0 system, esALB earns ALB and WETH rewards automatically and carries governance voting power. Returning the locked amount to spendable ALB follows a timed redemption schedule or a limited instant-redemption allowance.

Locking and Legacy Balances

Lock & Earn converts new ALB into esALB. Legacy ALB must first migrate to new ALB before entering this system. Locking concerns the ALB token itself; an ALB-WETH liquidity position is a separate deposit involving two assets.

The Alien Base 2.0 migration exchanges old ALB and old esALB for their corresponding new tokens at 1:1, without a deadline. Migration has no protocol fee, although Base gas still applies.

Legacy esALB held in the old staking vault must return to the wallet before migration. An amount already undergoing legacy redemption cannot migrate directly: its holder can complete the redemption and claim old ALB for migration, or cancel the redemption to recover old esALB for migration. Cancellation forfeits the progress of that redemption.

Older instructions describing a separate esALB staking deposit, full redemption after 30 days, and a seven-day claim window concern the legacy contract. Those conditions do not describe the new esALB exit schedule.

Rewards and Voting Rights

Holding new esALB qualifies the balance for ALB and WETH rewards without a separate staking deposit. Reward accrual is automatic; claiming rewards and redeeming the locked principal are separate operations.

WETH is the wrapped form of ETH. Alien Base distributes protocol-fee income through its WETH Real Yield stream, while ALB rewards are denominated in ALB. These reward sources have different economics, and the 1:1 locking ratio establishes no fixed monetary return. Locked ALB remains exposed to changes in ALB's price.

Governance gives esALB a voting weight of 1× per token. This voting role accompanies reward eligibility; it does not make esALB transferable between ordinary wallets or available for sale.

When Can the ALB Be Redeemed?

New esALB has two redemption routes, which can operate alongside each other. The standard exit clock begins when an unstake starts, rather than when ALB was originally locked.

Standard Unstake
The selected esALB amount enters vesting. Finalization is unavailable before day 30. At day 30, finalizing returns 85% of the amount assigned to that unstake as ALB. The payout rises linearly to 100% at day 60. During vesting, 70% of that amount continues earning rewards, while the other 30% stops earning.
Instant Redemption
A separate allowance permits redemption of up to 2% of the esALB position per 48-hour window at 1:1, without a penalty. Its calculation includes the wallet balance and amounts in vesting. Unused allowance does not carry into the next window.

Early standard redemption leaves part of the selected amount behind. That portion is distributed to esALB and govALB holders as ALB rewards. A position reaching day 60 remains available for full finalization; the new system has no seven-day redemption window or automatic relock.

Each standard unstake is a separate position. Cancelling one returns its full amount as esALB and restores full earning participation, but it does not release spendable ALB.

govALB and the Longer Commitment

govALB increases voting weight to 10× per token while retaining the same 1× earning weight as esALB. Conversion from esALB to govALB is 1:1 and one-way. Its standard exit requires a two-year unstake, during which the vesting amount earns no rewards. The additional voting influence therefore comes with a substantially longer commitment, without a higher reward weight per token.

Locking Decision Checklist

  • If the ALB must remain freely transferable or available for sale, account for esALB's transfer restriction before locking.
  • If the balance is legacy esALB, identify whether it is in the wallet, staked, or already undergoing redemption before selecting the migration path.
  • If full principal is needed through the standard exit, allow 60 days from the start of the unstake; day 30 returns 85%.
  • If considering govALB, weigh its one-way conversion and longer exit against the additional voting power.
